Scenarios for the Alps without Snow – How to use Scenario construction for design and research
By investigating different methods of scenario thinking and storytelling, the course will teach you how to use imagination in design and research to create new narratives for the future in an extreme climate and foster change. Global warming is rapidly transforming the Alps: glaciers are melting, and extreme weather events are more frequent. As water shapes the landscape, its disappearance alters the region, making former infrastructures like ski resorts and hydropower plants obsolete.
In this course, we will follow the traces of water. We will explore the impact of vanishing snow and its effects on artificial snow production and energy demand. We will also examine how design thinking can address these changes and foster coexistence between humans and the environment, reconceptualizing our role on the planet.
